Unless you’re a true-blue globetrotter , its likely that you’d never heard of Lausanne before, or had it mixed up with nearby Lucerne (that’s in the German-speaking part of Switzerland!) Yes, Lausanne is pretty much underrated, often overshadowed by its more well-known Swiss brothers like Zurich, Bern and Geneva. However, having now lived here for more than half a year, I realised that there’s actually so much that this city has so much to offer that others don’t know about! It might not be all glitz and glamour with high rise buildings, bright neon lights and 24/7 shopping malls, but as you will soon find out, Lausanne will still enchant you in its own humble manner 🙂

In this post, I’ve compiled a list of 10 places to explore in Lausanne, in hope that this would serve as a useful itinerary for friends and loved ones coming for future visits! There is no ranking to it, it’s simply a guide so that you can choose your own adventure. I have personally visited every place, either with Vince or with visitors: so I can say with confidence that each offers its own unique Swiss experience.

With that, grab a glass of red wine, nibble on some cheese and enjoy reading about all the things you can see and do in Lausanne!

In a blink of an eye, half a year has passed in Switzerland. Someone just pinch me! By now we have largely settled down, made our home cozy and hyggeligt; I can cross the street without causing a three car pile-up, and our gait are much quicker…overall it’s safe to say we have a better grip on things than when we first arrived 🙂

As I’m typing this I’m sitting out our balcony, coffee on hand and enjoying the warmth of the day. Summer is officially here and the heat reminds us so much of home in Singapore!

So far, I have not shared much about hard times or failures while adjusting to a new life here…Because I’d never wish to sound ungrateful for what I have. But neither do I want to project this false impression that life is all just scenic mountains, sunny vacations and pretty sunsets by the lake. Because truth to be told, I wasn’t feeling my best in the last couple of months. There had been many bumps in the road, especially at work.

Still I’d wanted to be honest about my current struggles, and pen down my reflections over this first half of the year.

It’s been 1.5 months of expat life in Switzerland.

I most certainly see the parallels between moving abroad and embarking on a new relationship. It feels almost like the initial infatuation phase: You are feeling shy and awkward, trying to understand each other’s preferences, patterns and habits. Sometimes you have great fun together and you discover amazing traits of each other, yet there are other times when you are left frustrated and helpless, wondering if you said or did something wrong…!? But at the end of the day, both parties are determined to make this long-term relationship work.

So here’s a recount of my honeymoon with Lausanne over the last 1.5 months!
