Nestled in the picturesque village of Les Brassus in Switzerland, Hotel des Horlogers beckons travelers seeking a perfect blend of luxury, tranquility, and Swiss charm. This weekend, I had the pleasure of experiencing the epitome of hospitality and sophistication at this hidden gem tucked away in the quiet forests amongst the Vallee du Joux.

Hotel des Horlogers: Arrival and First Impressions
Once we arrived at Le Brassus after our 1.5 hour train ride, we were promptly picked up by Nicolas, one of the hotel staff. He managed to made us feel so welcome from our first interactions and we were well taken-care of.
As I approached the hotel, surrounded by pristine white snow and the crisp mountain air, I was immediately captivated by its architectural elegance. The hotel seamlessly integrates quietly refined, elegant design with the natural beauty of its surroundings. No surprise that it was the winner of the Luxury Eco Resort, the Luxury Lifestyle Hotel awards in 2023.
The Room
Our room was the luxurious and spacious Forest Suite. The decor was warm with wooden touches, and looks out to the stunning Risoud forest, the largest continuous forest in Europe. The feeling when you arise from bed, with the pure snowy landscape right in front your eyes… it’s like waking up to a dream winter scenery!
There were so many attention to detail and little welcoming touches. From a lovely gift box filled local snacks, teas and gourmet salt, organic dog treats for Kaya (which he gobbled up!), premium bath amenities from Alpeor, to the inspiring photos of the Dent du Vaulion beautifully framed up at different corners of the room.
Dining
Hotel des Horlogers takes pride in its culinary offerings, and rightfully so. The on-site restaurant, Le Gogant is a gastronomic delight, featuring a menu that celebrates local and seasonal ingredients.
Nicolas shared with me the story behind the restaurant’s unique name: In the local dialect, “Le Gogant” refers to an extraordinary white and solitary fir tree. As it matures, this tree attains a size unparalleled by any other in the forest, evolving into a sanctuary for both humans and wildlife, and that is the vision of the restaurant, to be a safe gourmet haven from all over.
At our time of visit, the restaurant had a completely full service, which underscores its popularity. We had various entrees and the lamb platter for sharing, and every dish was a masterpiece crafted by skilled chefs. I particularly appreciated how every dish was produced with ingredients sourced directly from the nearby countryside.
The bar is another sophisticated and inviting corner in the hotel, and is ell-stocked with alcohols and spirits, of which 70% are from Switzerland. Here, you can also discover signature cocktails inspired byplants and trees from the Risoud forest. I can’t help but notice the interesting art installation, which Iater on learnt that it is made out of ropes forming the facade of the same local mountain, the Dent de Vaulion.
The third restaurant in the hotel is La Table des Horlogers, which invites guests to take a gastronomic stroll through the Vallée de Joux. Each season, the hotel works local producers to showcase their ingredients in our tasting menu. At our time of visit the table was decorated beautifully with an automnal. theme.
Wellness and Relaxation
For those seeking relaxation, the hotel’s spa and wellness facilities are a true sanctuary. I indulged in a rejuvenating 3 hour Rituel spa and facial treatment, and it’s not an exaggeration when i say that THIS was the most comprehensive spa session I’d ever had this year!
For the first 90 minutes, my masseur Veronique kneaded every single knots and aches out from my body with firm strokes and the calming smell of lavender essential oil. The massage bed was heated and was like a warm cosy coccoon, and I slept like a baby.
The subsequent ninety minutes were dedicated to revitalizing my dry, perched face. It began with a thorough cleanse, a gentle exfoliation, two hydrating masks and a final facial massage. I could sense my skin being renewed, making way for a radiant glow.
The sauna and hammam, although small, provided ample opportunities to unwind and recharge. It was a pity that there was no outdoor pool, but I was told that there are plans to build one in the near future and I can imagine how beautiful it would be to enjoy a dip in the waters with expansive views of the forest.
Vince was thrilled that there was a fitness centre which was well equipped with high quality exercise machines. Even better, working out here comes with an extraordinary view!
Exploring Les Brassus:
The village of Les Brassus is renowned for its watchmaking heritage, and Hotel des Horlogers pays homage to this legacy. Guests can explore the nearby watchmaking museums and workshops, gaining insights into the intricate craftsmanship that has defined the region for centuries. The Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet is literally a stone’s throw away from hotel and is highly worth a visit, although reservation months ahead is necessary. Come 2024, the Arc will also finish completion, allowing the high end watch-maker to amalgamate all its industrial activities in the Vallée de Joux under a single roof.
During summer, the area is also great for outdoor activities especially hiking and outdoor adventure biking.
Conclusion
My weekend stay at Hotel des Horlogers in Les Brassus was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived until the time of departure, every aspect of the experience exceeded my expectations. The seamless blend of luxury, hospitality, and the natural beauty of its surroundings. makes this Swiss retreat a must-visit destination for discerning travelers.
